Here's a tip from fitness expert and Athletic Therapist Keith Scott
after I asked him, "How much is enough for a beginner?"

Keith says...

Beginners are measured by their recovery with me.

I will put them through the paces for a session or 2 and then see
how they recover. If their recovery is slow, meaning they are still
sore and still wiped out, I adjust their workouts.

Once we get over that hump, I ramp things up. There is no real
answer for everyone. I really believe that each person should be
watched or at least have a set of guidelines that they go by.

For example, if I train someone for a half and hour or an hour, and
the next 2 days they feel like crap, and they are just not
recovering, I need to tone things down a bit until they can handle
the stress. If they come in feeling good and refreshed, I know I am
on the right track and can build on the last training session.

Progressive overload needs to be followed at all times, no matter
what you do. Generally speaking however, beginners should not be
doing anymore than 2-3 days a week for the first few weeks. And no
more than 45 min to a hour tops during that training time.

I like to set my beginners up on 1/2 hour sessions (very hard
sessions) and have a 15 min stretch, recovery at the end. Add some
HIIT here and there or other cardio here and there and watch them
closely.
